Summary
The 2025 update of the OECD Agri-Environmental Indicators (AEIs) tracks trends in land and water use, input consumption, and farming practices from 1990 to 2021. It covers data on nutrient balances, GHG and ammonia emissions, and farmland bird diversity. Since 2010, environmental performance in OECD agriculture has shifted, with agricultural production growth continuing. Progress in reducing nutrient surpluses has stalled, and ammonia emissions increased after 2015. Median GHG emission intensity has plateaued, and agricultural GHG emissions have risen since 2010. These trends suggest challenges in improving environmental sustainability in OECD agriculture despite growth in production.
